Short Bio
- Dr. Said Elshafae is currently serving as an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology/Oncology, at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He earned his PhD from The Ohio State University in 2017 in comparative pathobiology. Dr. Elshafae's research focuses on cancer biology, particularly the mechanisms of bone metastasis in prostate cancer. His work includes the development of cancer models to study the role of different oncogenes in the initiation of carcinogenesis. He has also investigated the effects of histone deacetylase inhibitors and other therapeutic agents on cancer progression. His current work focuses on engineering both universal and synthetic Notch (synNotch) CAR-T cells to target a broad spectrum of hematological malignancies and solid tumors, including prostate cancer, B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), and multiple myeloma. Dr. Elshafae's research aims to overcome the limitations of traditional CAR-T therapies by improving specificity, reducing off-target effects, reducing exhaustion, and enhancing efficacy by developing novel, unique CAR-T cells.
